| I have always loved these tumbleweeds that you see on the veldt. They grow up, flower beautifully, break off, and roll around scattering seeds. I keep trying to find out their real name, but they're locally just known as tumbleweeds. I found one on a walk in the veldt recently, and hung it up over my stove, like so: Simply beautiful! Then I hit on the idea that in my new cottage, with a big dome thatch roof, I can hang up about 20 of them, run fairy lights through them, and make a whole galaxy. Brilliant! But they're few and far between, so I asked a local woman who was eager for work that I'd give her about $3 for each one she brought me. Within a week, I was faced with this: ...and what you see here isn't even all of them. Does this remind anyone of the Star Trek episode? The Trouble with Tribbles? Can you imagine if they were hostile? Or if you were on LSD and walked in here?! OMG, I have to go find some tripping people. That would be So. Much. Fun. EDIT: Ha. After some intensive googling, I found them. They're called 'Boophone' - leading me to believe that they are indeed hostile, or at least like making prank calls. Part of the amaryllis family. So when you see those Christmas Amaryllis plants on sale, think of their exotic cousins, blowing on the hot veldt. - Mood:amused

| 2k again! I noticed that I've been waiting until fairly late in the day to start writing, and that made me enjoy it less. So I decided to put the end to that! I want to have fun with this book! So today I got started earlier, and I had more fun. :D Darling du jour: As they walked along the promenade, Amelia began pointing out people and things to her - subtly, with her eyes and pace and body language, so that they seemed to be having a conversation about everything they saw, with no words at all. They considered buildings, stores filled with clothing and jewelry, lovely women, and handsome men of all shapes and sizes. 57046 / 80000 words. 71% done! I had an interesting insight today about how some of the scenes I have written can be rearranged to make better sense in rewrites. I honestly tried to write this book in order, but my brain is just not wired that way. Since I have only the loosest outline, things are going to get juggled. I like that I can feel a little bit of what I need to do with it. | |

| So, I have a whole lot less restraint than most people and I LOVE Christmas music, so I've been dying to make this post for... oh, a whole month now, roundabout. But now the time has COME :D Last year's post is still up and the Mediafire folder is here (also linked on the post itself). I may accidentally post some repeats, as a disclaimer, but I'll try not to. ftr, last year I posted 59 songs but this year there are 131 (I think?)! Both last year's post and this post will stay public for the rest of November and for all of December. :)
( I've got my love to keep me warm )Please tell me if any links are broken! Also, if you really, really want a song and can't find it anywhere else, if you ask I probably have a version somewhere. Enjoy, guys! ♥

| I feel even worse today than I did yesterday. My left eye is a bit swollen and runny. My nose is bright red and dripping. My head is pounding and I look as gross as I feel.
On the bright side, Eric didn't have to work today so he took over like 97% of Delia's care. And he's taking her to his parents' house tomorrow (it didn't work out today).
The downside is I really should use some of that time to clean the guinea pigs cage since it's really, really stinky. I don't know if I can because it will irritate my sinuses and they're terrible already.
I can't figure it all out tonight. I think I'll just go to bed.

| The Day After Thanksgiving Is When The Christmas Tree Goes Up. That is just The Way It Must Be.
So that is what I have done with my morning. The tree is up and decorated, and the presents have been brought out of their storage space and heaped around it. I do not think Bear's inner child will have any issues with "not enough packages to open"...There is a nice heaping pile, and the majority are his.
For Christmas, you see, has a lot to do with answering the needs of our inner child. I have learned that I must have a tree up and decorate the house. Bear needs presents under the tree, stacks of presents, and he needs to open a lot of presents. (They don't have to be expensive presents, but they need to be there and wrapped. He gets to unwrap such things as a year's supply of deodorant.)
Some of them he knows he is getting, because he was there when we bought it...though on some of the older ones, he may have forgot. Some of them I think he guesses that he's getting; for example, it is pretty traditional between us to give him a box of chocolate covered cherries for his birthday and for Christmas, because he loves them so.) Some of them can be guessed from the package. Books feel like books, and it's hard to disguise a three foot piece of mahogany as being anything but a board. But some of it he does not know about at all, and I am terribly proud of being able to pull off getting those, especially as money is so tight and I don't have my own car.
He's very fond of the notion that we will start buying and wrapping things for next Christmas in January; we have quite a lot of storage space above the bed, and while it's easy to get to and add to, once wrapped and in a bag, it's out of sight and out of mind. I'll keep a list, of course, on the computer, but I white out things that have been bought so that I can find them if I need to check and see if we have them without looking at the entry and remembering them. Especially my presents. Spread out over twelve months, it becomes very very easy, and it feels very good to look out there and see all the presents under the tree, without a massive single effort on my part.
I am now sitting down, and in a little while I will stand up and redo the altar and the ancestor shrine, put away the various autumnal decorations, and get out the winter/Christmas ones and put them up. And then I will go make bread, and do some dishes. I just really don't want to push my foot too much.
|
| It's that time of year again! I'm not flush this season, but hey, we are all in fandom, so I shall be trawling all your lists to see if there is anything I can fulfill anyway. :) ( Instructions )( My 10 wishes ) | |
